El artista es el creador de las cosas bellas. Revelar el arte y ocultar al artista es la finalidad del arte.

El crítico es el que puede traducir de un modo distinto o con un nuevo procedimiento su impresión ante las cosas bellas.

La más elevada, así como la más baja de las formas de crítica, son una manera de autobiografía. Los que encuentran intenciones feas en cosas bellas están corrompidos sin ser encantadores. Esto es un defecto.

Los que encuentran bellas intenciones en cosas bellas son cultos. A estos les queda la esperanza.
